Go2linux has this awesome tip about using wget to download Youtube videos. It involves scraping the Youtube page for the video id and then using the same as input to the wget download parameter. The first time I tried it, the download went really fast. However, when I tried it out again to download one of Google’s Tech Talks, it came out sluggish. It may have something to do with the size of the video I was pulling. Anyhow, a great tip is still a great tip.
Update: It seem I just ran over a rough patch, downloads are now doing fine.
